Brewing news Brazil: Beer exports decline in January-July this year

Brazil’s beer exports grew for the second month in a row in July totalling USD8 mln in money terms, data by the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC) showed on August 19.

As compared to July 2018, the nation’s beer exports increased by 8.9% last month.

In January-July, however, total exports declined by 13.1% from last year to USD42.31 mln.

In volume terms, Brazil’s beer exports amounted to 11.32 thousand tonnes last month, up 8.4% versus July 2018. The year-to-date volume dropped by 16.1% to 62.321 thousand tonnes.

Beer accounted for 0.03% of Brazil’s total exports in January-July this year, the Ministry said.

The nation mostly exports its beer to other South American countries with Paraguay accounting for 84% of Brazil’s total beer shipments abroad. Bolivia is ranked second (9.1%), Uruguay third (3.3%), and Argentina fourth (0.7%). However, only Paraguay increased imports of Brazilian beer in July (+74%), whereas Bolivia, Uruguay, and Argentina reduced their purchases (by 27%, 35.1%, and 96.1%, respectively).
